I don't understand. In my lifetime, the Democratic Party has been about social programs, redistributing wealth (sort of), protecting people from the predations of large corporations and the unscrupulously powerful people that control them. Also in my lifetime, the Democratic Party has listened to the Republicans turn "liberal" into a dirty word, because God knows, caring about your fellow human beings enough to actually *help* them must be the absolute worst thing for the country. And the Party has taken this lying down, and I'm sick of it because if you can't find the courage to speak up, John Ashcroft's Department of Justice (using the term loosely) is going to acquire the ability to strip me or anyone else of my citizenship. In theory that means you, too, if you displease your corporate masters. Bush is a *liar*. Do you get it? Do you care, or have you been paid off too? He *lies*. That means that he says one thing and does five other things to undermine that one thing. It means he says that increased logging means fire control, instead of easier profit for logging companies on the backs of further environmental degradation. It means he says war is the last resort, even when that war has been planned and taken for granted since the late 90s. It means he says we support our troops, then cuts veterans' benefits. It means he says the economy is growing, when we're still millions and millions of jobs in the hole since 2000. His lying is documented. Really. If he sued you for slander, you'd win. Since the Democratic Party doesn't seem interested in documenting it, MoveOn.org has picked up the slack at http://www.misleader.org . I don't care how you do it. Wrap yourself in the damn flag if you need to. Cutting veterans' benefits seems pretty unpatriotic to me. Stripping people's citizenship, holding them indefinitely without due process--maybe it seems like people are too scared to care, but point out to them that this can happen to *them*, or their *children*, or their *friends*, that Timothy McVeigh was white and middle-class and Midwestern too and these are not the sorts of things that only happen to somebody else. Speak up, or go join the Republicans and give somebody else a chance to do what you're not willing to.
