Back to the dojo today! For the two-hour afternoon session of our semi-annual Friendship Training. Nice to see everybody again, and get back on the mat and see that I can still do it all (I got wiped out just doing the basics class on Wednesday). I trained the first hour doing knife takeaways with a friendly teacher from Monterey who also teaches jiu-jitsu, so he's aware and ready to do all sorts of meaner things that we don't normally do in aikido--squeezing knuckles, bending back fingers, etc. All good fun.

Having sorted out a few boxes of books to get rid of (probably tomorrow), I've been violating the moratorium on acquiring more stuff. I finally got a copy of 69 Love Songs, a sublim concept album by the Magnetic Fields that most of us can only aspire to. Imagine the following set to quiet, catchy, lovingly sweet music:

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures
and instructions for dancing
but I
I love it when you read to me
and you
you can read me anything
Or the line "Since you've been away / it's been raining all day / and it's usually raining too." Who writes that? It's brilliant. I don't know how long it will be until I know all the songs well; probably quite a bit. SlimServer and my Squeezebox really feed my music ADD, making it easy to flip around between different stuff.
